Bridget joined our small but dynamic team as a SEND Volunteer after attending our Matlock Looking After You Too course in 2024. Bridget is an amazing baker and is famous for her chocolate brownies. After spending many years managing her family butcher’s business in Wirksworth, Derbyshire Bridget now works part time in retail in the local community store, which she loves. With a caring and kind nature, and with lived experience of navigating the education health and care system for her two youngest sons Bridget has been helping SEND families in her local community. To complement her lived experience since becoming a volunteer with The SEND Dynamic C.I.C. Bridget has completed the IPSEA SEN Law training and has successfully achieved Advanced Level 3. Bridget supports our Matlock group on Monday mornings, and we are so lucky to have her as part of our growing team.
“I am a proud mum and grandma and love spending time with my amazing family. I have 5 boys the youngest 2 have additional needs and after sailing through school life with our elder boys it was a shock for my husband and I to find ourselves navigating the world of SEND with our two younger sons. After an extremely rough start for one we managed to get him the correct understanding, support, and environment that he needed to thrive. Unfortunately, we found it not as simple with our later diagnosed son; we have had delays to every part of the process of supporting him which has made things very difficult at times and life changing for us all. I feel passionate about understanding and helping our children and families and have found it helpful to connect with other parents/carers and their families. I’ve had experience of securing EHC plans and the tribunal process, and I love to help children, and their families get the timely support that they need”.
