Lucy was a primary school teacher for 20 years and is passionate about art, textiles, and nurturing creativity. Lucy now has her own company Freckle Creative Learning supporting the needs of young learners in Derby. Lucy is a qualified mentor to autistic and ADHD university students, a parent to a child with SEND and experienced in supporting children with anxiety, mutism, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and attendance difficulties.
As a neurodivergent woman who loves all things creative Lucy is ideal to lead our Being Us group (Derby) “Crafting can be a good way of self-regulating for autistic young people especially textile-based activities such as sewing, knitting and crochet, as the repetitive actions can be a relaxing stim. Socialising can be so hard for neurodivergent people, who want to have friends but struggle with social anxiety. I’m very excited to be working with Being US at The SEND Dynamic and having the opportunity to support the girls through arts and creativity”.
